Welcome to Maunaloa School! Maunaloa School serves kindergarten through 6th graders. We are located on the southwest corner on the island of Moloka’i that has an island population of approximately 7,400. Four out of the past five years, our free and reduced percentage exceeded 90% that qualifies our school for Title I support. Approximately 78% of our students are of Hawaiian or part Hawaiian ancestry.
During the 2004-2005 school year, our school received a No Child Left Behind Restructuring status because of our low academic achievement. In three years, we were able to exist the restructuring status and have remained in Good Standing since. Last year, our school was recognized as a 2013 Hawaii StriveHI Recognition School. This recognition is given to only 5% of Hawaii’s public and public charter schools (11th out of 286 schools). This recognition was achieved through a very dedicated school and community who cares about meeting the needs of our students. Our community of learners are made up of outstanding students, dedicated staff and supportive parents and community members.
We are proud to be a part of Maui Canoe Complex that is made up of four island communities - Moloka’i, Lana’i, Lahaina, and Hana. Our complex area’s mission is “Together we will do what is best for children, ensuring the best possible learning in a safe environment.” Our mission is being achieved through exemplary instruction, a rigorous curriculum designed to help students meet the common core state standards. We focus on helping students understand and think critically about the text they read and to express their ideas both orally and in writing so they can become proficient and enthusiastic readers and writers, as well as lifelong learners.
